In the distant past (2004 and 2005, anyway), we showed the Symbol of Yawgmoth and where it appeared on Order of Yawgmoth, the Seventh EditionYawgmoth's Edict, and the Ninth EditionYawgmoth's Demon. Senior creative designer Brady Dommermuth points out that the symbol more precisely represents Phyrexia itself. Brian "The Dragonmaster" Kibler finally managed to add a Pro Tour title to his already impressive resume! He did the deed at Pro Tour–Austin, taking an innovative Zoo list to the title. The deck was built by Hall of Famer Ben Rubin and featured Baneslayer Angel and the combo of Grove of the Burnwillows and Punishing Fire. When I sat down to do my first booster draft, I had no idea what was going to happen. I had heard that I wanted to stick to two colors if I could help it, so I did that, but I didn't really understand what a mana curve was, or how important removal was, or really any of the basic strategies that go into successful drafting. I had an opportunity to play at a PTQ this last weekend. Of course, by opportunity, I mean I switched work schedules, picked up an extra shift, and made an iron man 18 hour day in order to play in a Zendikar sealed PTQ. As a format, I tend to dislike sealed formats. I’d love to be able to play in a draft instead, but as we had Peter Jahn discuss, it’s not exactly a likely scenario. The new Standard is here, and a metagame is shaping up. I've tested a lot this past week, and I think I have the next big deck. I have always been a big fan of Sedraxis Specter. The Shards of Alara rare hasn't really gotten to see its full potential in Standard because cards like Bitterblossom and Spectral Procession were clogging up the air. Bitterblossom and Spectral Procession have gone away, though, and Sedraxis Specter hasn't looked this good since Shards of Alara Block Constructed. (more)
