The Return of Smallpox in M2011
With Smallpox's debut in M12, I am having flashbacks of how good Solar Pox was when Time Spiral and its surrounding sets were legal.  The deck, a control deck with combo elements, utilizes the "drawbacks" of Smallpox to put the caster at an advantage over the opponent. I'm hoping to reproduce the success with this new card pool.  Check out a bit more in-depth history and the version I came with. (more)

Thoughts on Stoneforge Mystic and Jace, the Mind Sculptor being banned in Standard
Ding dong, the Mind Sculptor is dead.  At least in Standard. So is Stoneforge Mystic, but he'd be forever alone without Batterskull and the swords. You may have read theories, Twitter posts, and the official press release concerning the decision, but check out my view of why these cards were banned. (more)

Ok, Survival of the Fittest is banned, what about Jace?
When Magic the Gathering degenerates into a race between two players to play a card, the game loses much of the strategy and technique players crave. Survival of the Fittest does just that, providing a way to win and answer threats through its tutoring ability. Like Survival, Jace is also a win condition and threat response.
