There are many ways to make a Vampire deck, but this is the simplest approach: mono-black with four copies of Magic 2010's Vampire Nocturnus. This deck is fast and can be unforgiving. The biggest surprise was how good the one Mind Sludge was; it was constantly catching people by surprise and taking them completely out of the game. (more)

As I survey the wreckage of my Zendikar Prerelease experience, it's quite clearly time to close the doors on the Academy, at least for now. Just like any Magic set, there are many cards in M10 that you may never play with, or against. One More Fun Thing To Do With M10
We’ve been drafting a lot of M10 at my house lately. I’ve been drafting M10 online every day with some good results, and drafting on Tuesday nights with decidedly less success. Tuesday night drafts in the Guildhall are populated with generally better than average talent, and match wins are hard to come by. Apart from online play and Tuesday nights with the hardcore dudes, I have also been drafting almost every day with the ten year old prodigy that walks around carrying half my genetic code, my son Lawson. With the PTQ season drawing towards a close, I want to take a look at what Standard looks like in the absence of Lorwyn Block, so that we can begin to prepare for the arrival of Zendikar with whatever wackiness it contains. What They Think You're Thinking
When you're trying to figure out your attacks for the turn, you need to consider what your opponent is capable of doing not just on this turn, but on subsequent turns. If your opponent is tapped out, it's pretty easy for you to figure out everything that he or she is capable of doing on this turn as you only have to consider a finite number of potential blockers and activated abilities. Olivier Ruel was elevated to the Magic Pro Tour Hall of Fame last year, and he's still going strong. This past weekend in Brighton he won his fifth Grand Prix Champion title, in his 26th GP Top 8, at his 107th Grand Prix. His champion deck had both Fireball and Siege-Gang Commander.
