No, since the beginning Elves have been with us from the lowly Llanowar all the way up to the Elvish Archdruid. Now you can even play them in Pauper! Combo Elves have been all the rage of late, using Elvish Archdruid alongside Heritage Druid and Nettle Sentinel to repeatedly cast Primal Command, all in one turn. Apparently no one told Steve Pulliam, who powered into the Top 8 of a Pro Tour Qualifier for Austin in Portland, Oregon with a completely different take on the Elf archetype. He paired the most powerful and cost efficient Elves with a modicum of burn to control the red zone. Particularly cool? His combo of Manamorphose and Talara's Battalion! (more)

The story out of Japanese Nationals centered around an explosive Elf deck that generated fast mana and combed Regal Force and Primal Command to win the game. It was Elves that were again the big story out of French Nationals, but Mongilardi Gilles eschewed all the fancy bells and whistles of the green-white versions for the tried and true Rock approach.
